North Wind
Roger Soucy - 10.15.2000
Deep in the mountains great and old,
The North wind dances lightly bold.
In dens deep with hues of greenish gold.
Over streams burning with a winter cold.
The North wind calls to ages untold.

Midnight Longing
Roger Soucy - 08.12.1998
Never again shall I fear the night,
The darkness has lost its terror,
For it was in the night that I saw you.
It was in the darkness that I loved you.
I watched you though you didn't know it,
I longed to touch you but didn't dare,
My hands were clenched, my heart faltered,
My breath grew shallow, my eyes were wet,
For it was in the night that I saw you.
It was in the darkness that I loved you.
I let you leave with barely a word,
I let you go without tasting your lips,
I thought of you every waking moment,
My dreams were of naught but you,
For it was in the night that I longed for you.
It was in the darkness that I wept.

Shattered Dreams
Roger Soucy - 12.07.1997
I sit here alone in the prison I created,
Contemplating death,
Wondering if it would change anything,
If anyone would notice I was gone.
I realize I have been living a lie,
Pretending to be someone,
I never could be.
I never wanted to be.
Just so I could bear the pain,
That I faced each and every day.
Being different has that effect on you,
Ridicule, pain, and the hatred,
The hatred of everyone who pretends to be different,
But they're all the same.
They hate you.
They laugh at you.
They mock you.
Never caring if they hurt you,
As long as they look good in others eyes.
But who wants to live in others eyes,
Who wants always to be judged?
Why can't we love each other,
For who we are,
Not who we pretend to be?
No,
Always the laughter,
Always the hate.
Maybe death is the answer.
But don't they say that death is the final judgement,
And isn't death pictured as a laughing skull?
Will there ever be peace?
Will the pain ever end?

Truth
Roger Soucy - 06.21.1997
I lay here, alone.
My thoughts drifting,
As I watch the sun fall behind the trees.
Stars slowly blink into existence,
In the darkening sky,
And I can hear,
The gentle crashing of the ocean waves,
On the rocks below.
As I lay here a gentle calm washes over me,
Time slows down to a crawl,
And for an instant the world seems perfect,
Still, Silent, and Beautiful.
I suddenly understand the truth,
The meaning of it all.
I let go of myself and revel in the understanding,
My soul sheds my body and joins the peace,
And a new star blinks into existence.

Shadow Dreams
Roger Soucy - 10.28.1996
In the dark hours of the night,
When the crystal moon sleeps,
And the stars have burned away,
Dreams take over my tired mind.
Dreams of places long forgotten,
And of people unremembered.
Plagued by shadows of faces,
And places hidden in grey haze.
Haunted by a past not my own,
The images flash before my eyes.
A gentle voice calls out my name,
Then fades away in the shadows,
Not even waiting for a response.
The voice is somehow familiar,
An echo of someone long departed.
A beautiful woman stands before me,
Her image clear as she moves closer,
She gently touches her lips to mine,
Then moves away into the shadows,
She looks back sadly then She's gone,
I can almost remember her,
But the shadows have taken my mind,
And the sun wakes me from the past.

Black Rose
Roger Soucy - 07.18.1996
As I look down from my perch
I see the children laughing,
hiding their hidden fears and dreams.
Each one a puppet of a failing society
whose strings have become twisted and tangled.
They all wear a living mask of lies,
And I watch as they cry behind it.
Still I will watch as they wither
Like the petals of a week old rose
Whose duty as a symbol of affection fails
And the two whom it represents fade away.
I will watch as the petals fall to the dusty floor
Like so many lost loves and I will laugh,
For I am the thorns of that dying rose,
And as it dies I merely grow harder and sharper
And those who get too close will bleed.

Broken Dreams
Roger Soucy - 10.04.1995
In ages long past,
In futures yet to come,
Forever are we seeking,
For the reason we are here.
Time goes by quickly,
The hours flying by,
Each minute we grow older,
Each second our lives are shorter.
In life we seek in vain,
In death the truth is clear,
The life we lived was wasted,
That what we sought was just a dream.

Shadows
Roger Soucy - 03.21.1995
There are shadows among you. You cannot see us, we are hidden to your mortal eyes. We walk among your kind, blending in to your societies, your lives, and your secrets. You cannot hide anything from us, and you will never know us. We are here, forever, just as we always have been, and always will be. We are the twisters of fate, the puppeteers that guide you. We are your desires, your dreams, your hopes and your fears. There are shadows among you.
For each one of you, there is one of us. A dark shadow to the light of your humanity. You have seen us, you talk with us, laugh with us, and you cry with us, never knowing the truth behind our eyes. We walk among you, we stalk you. To us you are no more than pawns, pieces to be used in an everlasting game of fates. We exist in this world of yours because you need us, desire us, we are that dark mystery that you cannot understand. We are that darkness that calls to you in the night. We are the apprehension you feel when you are alone in a dark and forgotten alley. We are exquisite pain, and we are immortal beauty. We are power, and still you do not know us.
We are not exactly the same as you, there are differences. You can see them if you look closely, but to do so is to look destiny in the face, to confront the greatest of unknowns. We are the weavers of the web of truth, its sinuous strands encompasing you. Look into my eyes and you shall see the truth that imprisons you, you will see all laid out before you. Look into my eyes and see what pain waits for you. We are the future that waits, and the past that haunts you, and still you do not know us.
Seen sometimes as a shadow passing on the edge of your vision, we are always there. We haunt you, our pawns, always watching, changing the paths from under you. Watch the shadows and you may see us, a hint of movement, a shadow deeper than the rest. Even in your normal life we are there, watching, manipulating. We are everywhere. Sometimes you feel us watching, sometimes you do not, but we are always there. In that car late at night that you thought was following you, in the footsteps you hear behind you. Around a corner in a darkened room, the stranger that looks so familiar to you. Always we are there, and still you do not know us.
You will never know us. We are the twisters of fate.
There are shadows among you....
